In the ever-evolving world of journalism and content creation, the art of editing remains an essential skill that can shape narratives, clarify complex ideas, and ensure the accuracy of information. Recognizing the importance of this craft, the American Copy Editors Society (ACES) has established a series of scholarships aimed at nurturing the next generation of editors. Whether you are an aspiring editor with a passion for precision or a news enthusiast looking to hone your skills, the ACES Scholarships 2024 offer a unique opportunity to advance your career.
The Legacy Behind ACES Scholarships
The ACES Scholarships were born out of a commitment to excellence in editing, inspired by two legendary figures in the field: Merv Aubespin and Bill Walsh. Merv Aubespin, a former president of the National Association of Black Journalists, played a pivotal role in the formation of ACES in the late 1990s. His legacy is honored through the Aubespin Scholarship, which is awarded to one outstanding student each year.
Bill Walsh, a revered author, blogger, and longtime copy editor at the Washington Post, was a guiding spirit for ACES. His dedication to the craft of editing lives on through the Bill Walsh Scholarship, which is awarded to a student who demonstrates exceptional talent in editing news.
