The Institute for Law & AI (LawAI) is an independent think tank dedicated to ensuring the safe and equitable use of artificial intelligence. By collaborating with governments, international organizations, and businesses, LawAI addresses pressing legal challenges in AI and proposes innovative solutions.
As a summer fellow, you will engage in meaningful research under the guidance of a mentor, working on projects that align with your background and interests.
Degree Level
Fellowship-level programs at the Institute for Law and AI (LawAI).
Fellowship Structure
- Remote Fellowship: A preparatory phase lasting 8-12 weeks.
- On-Site Fellowship: A week-long immersive experience in Washington D.C. from July 7-11, 2025.

This fellowship is open to students of all nationalities.
Eligibility Criteria
The LawAI Summer Fellowship encourages applications from diverse backgrounds, including:
- Graduate law students (JD or LLM), PhD candidates, and postdoctoral researchers.
- Professionals transitioning into AI law and policy.
- Legal academics with a keen interest in AI and its implications.
- Previous experience in AI-specific research is not required, so don’t hesitate to apply even if you’re new to this field!
