Graduate Research Scholarships 2022-23 at the University of Melbourne are now available for international students if they have applied for and meet the entry requirements for a graduate research degree at the University of Melbourne, or be currently enrolled in a graduate research degree at the University of Melbourne.

University of Melbourne Australia 600 Graduate Research Scholarships (Up to $110,000) are available to undertake Graduate level programs at the University of Melbourne.

Scholarship Benefits:
- Full fee offset for up to two years for students undertaking a Masters by Research degree or up to four years for students undertaking a doctoral degree.
- Living allowance of $32,400 per year pro rata (2022 full-time study rate) for up to two years for students undertaking a Masters by Research degree or up to 3.5 years for students undertaking a doctoral degree. The living allowance may be indexed annually and includes limited paid sick, maternity and parenting leave.
- Relocation grant of $2000 for students moving from States or Territories other than Victoria or $3000 for students moving from outside Australia.
- Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) Single Membership for international students who require a student visa to study in Australia
Fee offset scholarships
- Full fee offset for up to two years for students undertaking a Masters by Research degree or up to four years for students undertaking a doctoral degree.

Eligibility Criteria:
To be eligible for this scholarship, you need to:
- have applied for and meet the entry requirements for a graduate research degree at the University of Melbourne, or be currently enrolled in a graduate research degree at the University of Melbourne
Selection criteria
All domestic students who are offered admission to a Masters by Research or doctoral degree (PhD) at the University of Melbourne will receive a Research Training Program Scholarship (Fee Offset).
Graduate Research Scholarships that provide a stipend as well as fee offset are awarded to domestic and international students based on academic merit. Eligible applicants are scored and ranked according to their academic achievement of their last completed degree and their research potential in their field of study. Factors such as completion of a degree at the same level of the research course for which the scholarship is sought, relevant professional experience, refereed publications, specialist medical qualifications or composition of original music may be taken into consideration.
Graduate degrees are taught and assessed in English across the University of Melbourne.
When you apply for a graduate degree, you'll need to meet the University's English language requirements to be eligible for a place. You can do this in a number of ways, depending on your circumstances.
We have made some temporary revisions to the English language requirements to accommodate challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. For courses commencing in 2021 and 2022, the following revisions apply:
- The validity of IELTS, TOEFL and Pearson PTE Academic tests has been temporarily extended from two to three years
- The TOEFL iBT Special Home Edition version is temporarily being accepted as equivalent to existing accepted TOEFL tests
- Tests not listed above or in our existing English Language Requirements, including Duolingo and Versant tests, will not be accepted.

Non-English speaking background
You must meet the University's English language requirements to be eligible for entry.
You can use TOEFL, IELTS, Pearson Test of English (academic tests) or Cambridge English, Advanced/Certificate in Advanced English (CAE) to meet the University's English language requirements. You can only submit results from one sitting within 24 months preceding the proposed date of commencement of enrolment. Please note: we do not accept the revised TOEFL Paper-delivered Test or ITP.
If you are unable to take TOEFL, IELTS, Pearson Test of English (academic tests) or Cambridge English, Advanced/Certificate in Advanced English (CAE) to meet the minimum English requirements, there are alternative English programs and tests you can take, see Other ways to satisfy English language requirements for more information.
English speaking background or education
Applicants who have completed an undergraduate degree, or a graduate degree of at least 2 years duration
If you've completed an undergraduate degree, or a graduate degree of at least two years duration, where the degree was taught and assessed entirely in English^, you may satisfy the University’s English requirements if you fulfil the following.
If the degree was completed:
- within two years of your commencement to study at the University of Melbourne, no additional evidence of English language proficiency is required
- between two and five years of your commencement to study at the University of Melbourne, evidence of work** in an English-speaking environment is required
- more than five years of your commencement to study at the University of Melbourne, evidence that sustained work** in a designated country*, in an English-speaking environment, has been undertaken since completing the degree will be required.

Applicants who have completed a graduate degree of at least 1 years duration
For graduate applicants who have satisfactorily completed a graduate degree of at least one years’ duration, where the degree was taught and assessed entirely in English^ and the English language entry standard for the completed degree was at least IELTS (Academic) overall band score 6.5 or equivalent.
If the degree was completed:
- Within two years of your commencement to study at the University of Melbourne, no additional evidence of English language proficiency is required
- Between two and five years of your commencement to study at the University of Melbourne, evidence of work** in an English-speaking environment is required
- More than five years of your commencement to study at the University of Melbourne, evidence that sustained work** in a designated country*, in an English-speaking environment, has been undertaken since completing the degree will be required.
